THE AUSSIE BULLDOG FROM THE BEGINNING |
|||
|
When searching the world wide web, you will find several sites on the Aussie/Australian Bulldog. The UABA web site holds the only entire photographic documentation of the beginnings of this breed /Jag Lines (Noel & Tina Green) correctly covering where ,why and how it first started and became known as today's bulldog of Australia. Below you will find photographs that document the full origins of the first foundation dogs used in the Jag / Greens breeding program right up to the generations of today that are mainly aussie to aussie matings. Starting from the first male (Banjo , staffy bully boxer) bred by greens in 1988 for the purpose of producing an attractive looking dog, solid build ,strong head type and unique colouring (white/brindle pied). A few pups from this first line of dogs were used in remote areas of QLD , NSW & NT for helping in the control and eradication of scrub bulls and feral pigs .These dogs had function , athleticism , tolerance ,controllability, intelligence, and productivity making them very capable for the job that was set out for them.
The first introduction of British bulldog blood in 1993 ,
was a straight cross bulldog / boxer called "Agro", bred
back to our staffy boxer/ bullmastiff x female "sally " born
1992. She was a daughter by "banjo", out of "brindle"

The Greens intentions were to produce a
whole line of dogs of bulldog type , larger in appearance to
the British ,and smaller than the Bullmastiff but keeping
both breeds quality traits , loyalty, personality and
impressive build. These two breeds were chosen for the
related similarities .The "Regency Bulldog" is documented
as being the type of Bulldog bred to English Mastiffs to
produce today's Bullmastiffs , and is partly responsible for
the Greens idea of producing a modern breed that resembled
these dogs. The photo on the right is an Old -type Bulldog , bred by Mr C Derwent and this was the type of dog used in the bullmastiff foundations .Photo is from the Mastiff and Bullmastiff handbook written by Douglas B .Oliff |
