When searching the world wide web you will find several
sites on the Aussie/Australian Bulldog.
The UABA web site holds the only entire photographic
documentation of the beginnings of this breed /Jag Lines
(Noel & Tina Green) correctly covering where ,why and how
it first started and become known as today's bulldog of
Australia. Below you will find photographs that document the
full origins of the first foundation dogs used in the Jag /
Greens breeding program right up to the generations of today
that are mainly aussie to aussie matings. Starting from the
first male (Banjo , staffy bully boxer) bred by greens in
1988 for the purpose of producing an attractive looking dog,
solid build ,strong head type and unique colouring
(white/brindle pied).A few pups from this first line of dogs
were used in remote areas of QLD , NSW & NT for helping in
the control and eradication of scrub bulls and feral pigs
.These dogs had function , athleticism , tolerance
,controllability, intelligence, and productivity making them
very capable for the job that was set out for them.
The first introduction of British bulldog blood in 1993 ,
was a straight cross bulldog / boxer called "Agro", bred
back to our staffy boxer bullmastiff female "sally " born
1991, she was a daughter by "banjo", out of "brindle" a
boxer bullmastiff female ,this generation onwards was
entirely bred as family companions, later producing the
litter that Jag Dishlex came from. Our main focus was on
function , health temperament and type, laying a solid
foundation for the future breeding of Jag line dogs .The
introduction of 100% British Bulldog to the Jag /Green
foundation line was "Jake" , also owned by A.Tropea ,this
brought in heavier bone , squarer head types and increased
the thickness of bodies, producing puppies that immediately
resembled bulldogs of yesteryear . |
The Greens intentions were to produce a
whole line of dogs of bulldog type , larger in appearance to
the British ,and smaller than the Bullmastiff but keeping
both breeds quality traits , loyalty, personality and
impressive build. These two breeds were chosen for the
related similarities .The "Regency Bulldog" is documented
as being the type of Bulldog bred to English Mastiffs to
produce today's Bullmastiffs , and is partly responsible for
the Greens idea of producing a modern breed that resembled
these dogs.
The photo on the right is a Old -type Bulldog , bred by Mr C
Derwent and this was the type of dog used in the
bullmastiff foundations .Photo is from the Mastiff and
Bullmastiff handbook written by Douglas B .Oliff |

The
Aussie/Australian Bulldog name came about simply by referring to a bulldog
breed and the country in which it was established .
For eg: French Bulldogs ,British Bulldogs, American Bulldogs ,Brazilian
Bulldogs ,Aussie / Australian Bulldog.. |
The only other modern bulldog that is similar in its choice
of foundation
breeds is the Victorian Bulldog that was foundered by the late
Ken Mollett in England and continued on by his wife and the Unincorporated
Victorian Bulldog Society as well as a large number of committed breeders
with the Victorian Bulldog Association (VBA) .Both breeding programs began with the same amount of determination to create
a more functional , versatile bulldog focusing very strongly on family
dogs suitable for a home environment and avoiding individuals that have too
much drive in the direction of catch dogs.

Victorian Bulldogs Boatswain and Nellie. Photo taken by Tim Rose from

The
original Jag / Greens lines contain Staffy, Boxer, Bullmastiff , Bulldog ,
eventually moving towards breeding heavily on Bullmastiff and British bulldog bloodlines which
lay behind all related dogs today .
The Nobes line dogs were structured differently , which you can view on the
Australian bulldog society web site for further information. We do not agree
with the choice of breeds used in some lines of Nobes dogs ,
however we do support her lines based on Boxer , Bulldog and Bullmastiff
Bulldog ancestry .
Greens breeding kicked off from a dog Angelo Tropea
owned in Caboolture QLD , an impressively built dog called "Agro"who was a British Bulldog Boxer straight
cross. Agro was bred in Caloundra , and was a full brother to Everus Rocky Road
owned by Gavin Everus , who was later used back to Jag Paint in 1998
which a female from this litter called Jag Ginger Megs started the Yanco
kennel owned by Julie Wickham. Everus rocky road was a half brother to
Wingara Chippolata .They all had the same British Bulldog mother , but Chip
was sired by a totally different male Boxer .Chippolata was purchased from Caloundra by P.Nobes .The
female Nobes
purchased become known as chippy , the second foundation female of the
Nobes line .
The Greens used "Agro" over Jag Sallanne (Sally) in 1991 who was a daughter
of Banjo & Brindle , this litter
produced a well known productive female called Jag Dishlex. ( Dish) who
built the platform for the future breeding plans that Greens had in mind.
"Dish"was mated to a full British called Maxlyn Hercules Wrath ,
producing "Maggie" Then Miss margatitta went back to Teddy Bear
long time comming to produce Paint and 8 other siblings , four of which
were exported to Guam as the first Aussie Bulldogs to leave the
country .This was the beginning of continual export of these dogs to a
large number of countries , including United States ,Tahiti , Japan ,
China , Singapore , Hawaii , just to name a few .
The first introduction of pure Bullmastiff came from a female called Charlotte
in 1991, a lovely large solid fawn crank tailed female who was initially
owned by the Greens and sold to Angelo Tropea .Angelo then put his British Bulldog
Jake to her, producing 9 pups,8 females and 1 male. These hybrid's were then used back into the
program. Greens had a male from this called Moby who was later sold to Pip
Nobes .Two females called Tropeas dressed in red & Tropeas
Nikki were important females used for the next generation of breeding
producing some good litters of which a couple of important dogs came about . Tropeas
Dressed in red was put to another British Bulldog that Angelo
owned called Jacko also known as Mityan Sir Anglo .This litter
produced a male called Cashes Donk ,later changed to Donkey Tonk Eeore on
Nobes registrar ."Donk " was bred by Dianne Cash and purchased by Haden
Lowe from Brisbane who sold Donk to the Greens in 1999 , he was later
sold to Pip Nobes .Mityan Sir Anglo was also used by Angelo Tropea in
1999 to a pied coloured full bred Staffy female called "Roma" ,
producing a large litter of puppies , some having natural screw tails
.One of her daughters became known as Pukallis Dizzy also known as
Bullstaff Dizzy bred by Jason & Trish Pukallis in Morayfield QLD .She
was then mated to Jag Master Duncan who is from Jag Paint and Perciles
Hero , producing Pukallis Fanny owned by Graeme and Mellisa Mc
Allister of Mc Gramel Kennels.Fanny was mated to Bungalow Bronson Of Jag
to produce Mc Gramel Prince Archer owned by Vaughn Cameron and 2 sisters
Darma and Bindi owned by Peter & Tricia Pownceby Warra Kennels.
The other main introduction of Bullmastiff was from Rob Kestel in WA,
a male called " Tiger Boy " who was red brindle ,
his breeding was Bullmastiff / Bulldog straight cross . This male was used by Greens
on two occasions and by Rob personally for the start of his Kestels breeding
program in September 1998 . Tiger boy was put to Jag Dishlex to produce Jag
Tim Tam , 2 females from this litter started G'Day Aussie Bulldog
kennels owned by John Franks .Jag Tim Tam who was later bred to Devass
Gregory back in1999 continuing a line of healthy productive females
starting Layleys Kennels with Jag Pepper and Jag Coco as well as
producing Jag Cindy for the greens. Tiger was also used over Jag Miss
Margarita to produce Holly who was put to Allipundi Lord Charles (Max)
to produce dogs such as Jag Bundy for Malleebull owned by Fleur Marks,
Jag Bronson and so on. Holly also had two previous litters ,11 puppies
in the first litter and 8 in the second litter both sired by Cash's Donk.
This tied in two lines of Bullmastiff ancestry. Massive amounts of
breeding have been done from these original matings until today ,
January 2006, which involves hundreds of pups and dozens of new breeders
.
The last introduction of Bullmastiff was in January 2005 when Bungalow
Bronson was used over a big silver brindle bullmastiff female known as
"Lillian" without papers and owned by Stockton Park Kennels .Lillian had
16 puppies natural whelp and reared 9 , 5 males and 4 females all
females now placed in breeding programs with the intention of
starting a fresh hybrid line for the purpose of producing well built
females around 75% british blood and hopefully continuing on another
generation to produce 7/8 british blood males for the purpose of stud
dogs with the logic being that they only contain 2 breeds .By the third
and fourth generation these dogs will be suitable for use back to select
lines of well established aussie bulldogs.
The
three British Bulldogs that were used by both lines initially were Hercules
Wrath , a red male purchased from Gladstone by the Greens and later sold to
Nobes in approximately 1994. The other dog ( teddy bear long time coming
) was a white dog ,offered to the Greens during a conversation with
the owner breeder of Teddy at a
Bundaberg Dog show in QLD and the contact details for this dog were forwarded to Pip Nobes at the time
by the Greens and purchased by Nobes
for future breeding as a stud dog to most foundation females including Miss
Margarita (Maggie) The third male
used was Allipundi lord Charles who was owned by a young fella in Pittsworth QLD
, this dogs pet name was Max, used twice by the Greens and used
overwhelmingly by Nobes. There are a number of british males used before and
after these three males by nobes and greens but they were not commonly
used by each other .Up to date more than 20 male British bulldogs in all
states of Australia have been utilized for the purpose of creating and
maintaining a typical bulldog appearance , remembering that the Aussie
Bulldog is still probably 5 or 10 years away from completely
holding its own breed type , Aussie Bulldog to Aussie Bulldog , because
of the unexpected expansion of numbers giving us a lot greater challenge
at hand . Saying that you are breeding Aussie Bulldog back to Aussie
Bulldog at this stage means very little if you do not have thoroughly
compatible bloodlines .This is possible , but very minimal .It is easy
to mate two dogs together ( anyone can do that ) but the secret is
knowing how to ensure that the litter will be correct. If we do not take
some control of the matings being done , then the aussie bulldogs will
more than likely in 50 years time be as inconsistent looking as a
numbers of registered breeds .This can not be argued by the canine ,
because we have personally seen 230 bullmastiffs at 1 gathering and
honestly you would have trouble finding 10 that look similar.
Greens & Nobes looking at the betterment of the breed from each a
slightly different perspective formed an association with its name
suggested by Noel & Tina known as the UABA ( United Aussie Bulldog
Association) in Nov 2003 to bring all lines
of Aussies together under the one association and concentrate on increasing
consistency and breed type by getting breeders to work in together and to
promote the breed to the general public . In 2005 Pip Nobes later formed the
ABS ( Australian Bulldog Society). At that point Pip had approximately 10
years experience with this type of dog , and Noel & Tina had been
heavily involved for more than 17 years .Pip Nobes earlier interest with
introducing bullmastiff to her lines , came as a result of comparing her
puppies to our heavy boned square headed aussies. Continually we found
ourselves disagreeing with Pip or Pip disagreeing with us on a number of
issues and now find it easier to do our own thing. Resulting in the two
separate Breed Associations .In the last 13 years we have not really had
a great lot to do with the Nobes dogs and our Aussie bulldogs were
started completely independently before Pip Nobes and we have
found continual success with the well thought direction in which we are
heading .
Whether this breed becomes registered with the
Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC)
or not , they have already been recognised here for their improved function and lovable nature by all families
that now own one.
The Aussie Bulldog has a lot better future if bred continually to the most compatible dogs.
The
percentage scale is in place working hand in hand with the number of
generations and the record of particular breeds used to give us a
thorough evaluation of a dogs breed certificate .Photos are requested
from every litter bred before being excepted into the aussie Bulldog
Register by the UABA
The Greens registrar was handled by the Cauchis for 18 mths due to Tina's Ill health
. Joe & Louise Cauchi still run their personal registrar today , but
the UABA breeder records and previous records dating back to
9-06-88 being Jag foundation dogs have always been personally held by
Noel & Tina up to and including current breed details and registrations
from 80 breeders .
The introduction of Cauchi breeding came into place in late1998 . Joe &
Louise Cauchi's dogs were from mostly Johnson American Bulldog / British
Bulldog origin and were later bred back to Jag / Green lines .
Devass Kennels owned by Mannie & Debbie Vassalo kicked off in 1999 by
using American Bulldogs purchased from Cauchi Kennels and were very
selectively put to quality male british bulldogs ,such as Devass Gregory and
Perciles Hero and then continued to
increase percentages as were seen necessary .
These two Breeders lines are now interlinked to a lot of aussie bulldogs in
Australia. For the start of the Aussie Bulldog photographic records please
click through the below pages to look at the breed developing from each
generation onwards ,these are the exact records that have been kept by the
Greens with each litter documented in a book starting from the
9-06-88.
Due to the large photo documentation of this
breed these further pages are still under construction .
We appreciate your patience .
