THE AUSSIE BULLDOG FROM THE BEGINNING |
| The
Aussie/Australian Bulldog name came about simply by referring to a bulldog
breed and the country in which it was established . For eg: French Bulldogs ,British Bulldogs, American Bulldogs ,Brazilian Bulldogs , Aussie / Australian Bulldog.. |
|
The only other modern bulldog that is similar in its choice
of foundation
breeds, is the Victorian Bulldog that was foundered by the late
Ken Mollett from England, and continued on by his wife and the Unincorporated
Victorian Bulldog Society as well as a large number of committed breeders
with the Victorian Bulldog Association (VBA) .Both breeding programs began with the same amount of determination to create
a more functional , versatile bulldog focusing very strongly on family
dogs suitable for a home environment and avoiding individuals that have too
much drive in the direction of catch dogs. Photo on right taken of the late Ken Mollett with his two Victorian Bulldogs Boatswain and Nellie. Photo taken by Tim Rose from the editorial written by Claire Horton-Bussey in Dogs Today October 1997. |

The
original Jag / Greens lines contain Staffy, Boxer, Bullmastiff , Bulldog ,
eventually moving towards breeding heavily on Bullmastiff and British bulldog bloodlines which
lay behind all related dogs today .
This photo was taken of Noel, 93 / 94 at
Southbrook , with 11 of our dogs. Pure bullmastiffs, boxer crosses, staffy
crosses, bullmastiff crosses and bulldog crosses. This motley crew was
a collection of dogs from the end of our working dog era, and the beginning
of the efforts towards creating a bulldog more functional and versatile. |
